How Small Habits Can Make A Huge Difference When It Comes to Achieving Your Goals



Imagine a plane leaving from Los Angeles on its way to New York. If the pilot decided to alter the course 3.5 degrees to the south during takeoff, the plane’s nose would move just a couple feet. The passengers on board would not even notice the small change. But over the course of the flight, the impact of this tiny change would be significant. The passengers would find themselves landing in Washington D.C. instead of their expected destination of New York.

Cool story, bro. What’s your point? The point is that we don’t notice these tiny changes because the immediate impact is so subtle—sometimes even completely unnoticeable. If you are overweight today and go for an hour-long run, you’re still going to be overweight tomorrow. Or if you are slim and binge eat ice cream all night, you won’t wake up overweight. However, if these behaviors are repeated on a daily basis, the impact will start compounding and lead to big changes. Go for that run every day and you’ll notice over 6 months that you’ve lost a lot of weight. Eat that ice cream every night and you’ll find yourself fat as f*ck after a year.

So, if you want to make a positive change in your life, you have to recognize that it requires patience and consistence. You have to remind yourself that your habits are keeping you on the right path and remain confident despite not seeing instant results.

You’ve got to focus on your current path, not your current results because your habits won’t pay off right away. If you’re broke, but saving a bit of money every month, you’re on the right path to financial freedom. Sure it might seem like you’re getting nowhere at first, but in one year you’ll see a major difference. On the opposite end of the spectrum, if you’re filthy rich but spending more than you make every month, it’s only a matter of time until you’re broke. I mean you’ve heard those riches to rags stories and been like, “How the f*ck did that happen?!” MC Hammer anybody? Yikes.

Back to the point. They key to making major life change does not always involve giant changes. You don’t need to completely reinvent yourself to see progress. You just need to make small changes now and stick to them. Because before you know it, those major transformations will already have taken place.
